Family Sponsorship

The Family Class Sponsorship Program reunites families by allowing permanent residents or citizens to sponsor a relative for immigration to Canada.

 Whom you can sponsor:

​

  • Spouse, common-law or conjugal partner

  • Dependent child

  • Parents

  • Grandparents

  • Sibling, nephew, niece, or grandchild under 18 years who is unmarried and whose parents are deceased.

Sponsors must sign an undertaking and sponsorship agreement and must not
breach the conditions of the sponsorship agreement during the period of financial undertaking. The length of the financial undertaking period depends on the type of the application and, in certain cases, the age of the sponsored person.

Sponsor Eligibility Criteria:

​

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Cannot be in prison, bankrupt, under a removal order (if a permanent resident), or charged with a serious offense.

  • Reside in Canada.

  • If you are a Canadian citizen not residing in Canada, you may sponsor your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner and/or dependent children who have no dependent children of their own. You must demonstrate that you will live in Canada once they become a permanent resident. 

  • Your relationship is genuine (real) and was not entered into primarily for the purpose of acquiring Permanent Residence.

  • If your spouse or common-law partner is applying in the Spouse or Common-law Partner "In Canada class", he or she must cohabit (live) with you in Canada

You can apply for Canadian Citizenship if:​

  •  Born in Canada.

  •  Permanent Residents who have resided in Canada for 1095 days in the past 5 years.

  •  Children born abroad to a Canadian parent.

​​
